Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have a burning question about my CV writing service?

  • How does the CV writing process work?

It’s easy to get a new CV from CV Shed! Submit some basic information, pay the invoice, have a chat and receive your documents quickly. There’s more detail in this process guide.

  • How long does the process take?

Not long at all! I’ll issue an invoice within 24 hours of receiving your order. When you’ve made payment, we’ll agree a consultation at a mutually acceptable time. You’ll receive your first drafts within 3 days of the consultation.

  • Who are your services for?

Anyone who needs a CV! I’ve worked with jobseekers looking for jobs from entry-level to Board level and everything in between, across every industry imaginable.

In addition to working with jobseekers, I can also provide CVs or staff profiles for corporate bidding packs.

  • Do you have experience of my role or industry?

With over 6,000 CVs under my belt, I’ve written job search documents for almost every job and industry you can think of.

The basic rules for writing a great CV are universal and my personal experience includes the public and private sector, a multinational and start-ups, and employment and self-employment – so I’m well equipped to write CVs for any role.

  • What qualifications do you have?

Having completed a Bachelors degree minoring in English, I’m now a mature student working towards a Masters degree in Applied English at a Russell Group university in my spare time.

On top of that, I’m a certified member of the British Association of CV Writers, a qualified proofreader and have over 13 years’ experience as a professional CV writer.

  • What information do you need from me?

Ideally, I’ll start with your existing CV so that I have some background for our consultation call. Don’t worry if you don’t have one though – we’ll just extend the call slightly to ensure we can cover everything. Alternatively, I can send you a questionnaire to fill in if you'd prefer to take your time over the answers.

It also helps if you can provide an advert for a job you’re interested in – it helps me to understand your aims and tailor the CV accordingly.

  • How do I contact you?

Initial contact is via the form on the CV Shed website. Once you’ve placed your order, you’ll be able to email me at any time. Any order for a full CV rewrite also includes a phone consultation of 15-45 minutes.

  • Will I have the chance to review my CV and request changes?

Absolutely! I want every client to be completely happy. I make decisions about every part of your CV as I write it, but if you have any questions or require any changes then you can get in touch when you’ve reviewed the CV. I’ll provide explanations or make necessary changes based on your feedback.

  • Can I send my CV straight to recruiters?

If you’ve provided me with a job advert, your CV will be tailored specifically towards that role and you can certainly send it straight to a recruiter when you’ve approved the order.

Otherwise, I’ll produce a master CV and you’ll need to make minor tweaks to ensure that it’s tailored to every application that you send off.

  • What do CV Shed customers say?

With over 13 years’ experience, I’ve got a long trail of happy customers! You can find their feedback at the bottom of the Products and Services page, on my LinkedIn page, or on Facebook and Instagram.

  • How do you take payment?

When you’re ready to kick-start your job search, I’ll email you an invoice. Payments can be made via direct bank transfer – details are on the invoice.

International payments and payments made by PayPal will be subject to a surcharge.

  • What is your refund policy?

  • Do you sell my data to third parties?

CV Shed guarantees never to sell your data. You can read more about privacy, confidentiality and data protection here

  • Can I add a cover letter to my order after I've paid?

Yes of course! Just drop me an email.

  • Can I add a LinkedIn profile to my order after I've paid?

Yes of course! Just drop me an email.

  • Why are your services so expensive?

Sure, there are other companies offering CVs much cheaper than CV Shed. These companies usually outsource the writing work (sometimes to non-native English speakers in third world countries) and prioritise volume over service. They also take a significant cut of your payment before passing the work to the writer. How much time do you think the writer will spend on your CV, to get their cut?

If you pay peanuts you get monkeys, so the saying goes, and these bargain-basement companies are unlikely to offer the quality or service you're looking for.

The price you pay to CV Shed doesn't just cover the time it takes me to write your CV - it also gives you access to the 13 years' of experience and expertise I've acquired as a professional CV writer and confidence that you're working with an accredited member of the British Association of CV Writers. My prices are in line with (and often cheaper than) other independent CV Writers.

No outsourcing, no pre-written templates and no production line. Just quality work and a personal service.

  • Do you offer discounts?

Unfortunately I can't lower my prices any further as they're already competitive, but I do offer a range of options to suit different budgets:

A full CV from scratch is the best option if you don't know where to start, are short on time or aren't getting results from your current CV.

The CV evaluation is a more cost-effective option, combining my expertise with your work.

If you feel confident creating your own CV, a copy of my eBook will help you to get the wording and layout spot on.

  • Can't I just write my own CV?

Anyone can write a CV, but not everyone can write a good CV.

A professional CV Writer will ensure that your CV meets current best practice, is tailored to the type of role you're looking for, makes a great first impression and really shows off your best attributes. In short, a CV writer takes the guesswork out!

You'll also save time and gain confidence, knowing that you have a CV that represents the very best version of you before you start your job search.

Of course, a new CV is an investment, which is why CV Shed offers a range of services to ensure that you can put your best foot forward, whatever your budget.

If you want to write your own CV, consider investing in my eBook first so that your CV meets best practice standards.

Why let opportunities slip by before you realise that your CV needs professional help?
